·Are you trying to install the software from canon’s website or from the disc you got with the device?
Step 1: Run the hardware and the device troubleshooter by clicking on the FIX IT button in the link below: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Tips-for-fixing-common-driver-problems
Step 2: This could also be an issue with the USB ports on your computer. You may try to delete the upper and lower filters for the USB ports.

Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
